What's Coming to Salemi in 2024
2024 is the foundation year for Salemi Ceramics and Ciao Salemi.
Our long term goal is to turn Salemi into one of the Mediterranean's most exciting hubs for creatives.
So, what are the first steps of our plan? What is happening in the short term?
Salemi Ceramics
Salemi Ceramics is the cornerstone project that will be the primary driver of our creative hub plan. Through Salemi Ceramics, our hope is to attract a community of ceramicists to live here, create their own work, and open their own businesses.
Courses
In 2024, we are hosting one course at a time, with most courses lasting for one week only. This means a maximum of 8 students at any one time will be here.
Our goal for 2025 is to run two courses concurrently at nearly all times, before eventually growing to a max capacity of 24 students in 2026.
Residencies
In 2024, we will also offer artistic residencies starting with a minimum of 2 weeks. The residencies will include studio time, accommodation, and most meals.
Volunteering
We will also create a volunteer program to help run and grow the school.
Gallery/Museum
In the San Agustin Monastery, we have started the the first steps to create and acquire our first pieces to be displayed in the gallery.
Ciao Salemi
Ciao Salemi is the community building organisation that will run in parallel to Salemi Ceramics. This will enable the Salemi Ceramics team to stay focused on ceramics.
Online Information Hub
The Ciao Salemi website will serve as a resource to all those considering or planning a trip to Western Sicily, with a specific focus on Salemi and the surrounding areas.
Activity and Accommodation Booking
Visitors to Salemi will be able to reserve activities and accommodation through the Ciao Salemi team (minimum 6 night stays).
Tourism Infopoint
The Ciao Salemi team will also serve as a tourism information point for English speakers who are looking for tips and information as to what to do.
The Infopoint will also serve as a place to organise activities on in-person basis.
Coworking Space
We will create a simple Coworking space in the St Agustin Monastery, as part of our agreement with the town.
